It is always best to control pests by targeting the source of the problem. For example, the conditions that allow pests to enter and infest a facility in the first place. This strategy emphasizes ongoing maintenance and thoughtful housekeeping to ensure pests will not find a hospitable environment.
The practice or management of preventing pest infestation focuses on sealing or otherwise blocking routes of entry to the building such as windows, vents and cracks in your home’s foundation. Try to avoid water leakage or standing water, as pests will often go where the water is. Keep water away from the inside of your home or building as much as possible. It is best to have a grade that exits moisture away from your foundation. If this isn't possible be sure to have gutters and French drains installed for proper drainage. Look around at the landscaping, remove or control food sources in close proximity to the building. Be a steward of good housekeeping by dusting and vacuuming, looking for signs of insect activity such as droppings and insect bodies, and inspection of current and incoming houseplants to ensure they are not infested. Watch your trash – a number of insects are attracted to garbage. Keep trash in sealed containers, and be sure to dispose of them on a regular basis.
The normal pest control discussion revolves around how to prevent pests from entering your home, and how to get rid of them once they're inside. Your home, however, is not the only place where pests can cause problems. Businesses are just as likely to have issues, and since an infestation can be devastating to a business' reputation and profits, commercial pest control is absolutely necessary.
